Ream
they/them
Ream is a queer labor organizer and somatics practitioner of European ancestry (Germany, Sweden, UK, Ireland) currently living on Ohlone Land in Oakland, California. Ream works with domestic workers to build power for economic and racial justice and immigrants’ rights, and is a community teacher at the East Bay Meditation Center in Oakland, and with generative somatics.
Many of their ancestors are early settler colonialists from England to Pennsylvania/Lenape Land, later of the Iroquois Confederacy and Virginia/Powhatan Land and others. They work closely with a lineage from Varmland, Sweden that arrived in the late 1800’s to Ohio/Erie, Kickapoo, Odawa, and Seneca Land, and recognize their many ancestors from what is now Rhineland, and the Palatinate Forest in Germany, and Switzerland who came to Pennsylvania as settlers.
Overview: This recorded practice invites our ancestors to back us up in our organizing work and inform our strategies for justice at this time. They are reaching for us always. They support our movements for self determination at the level of our bodies. We only need to develop our capacity to reach back. I do that through bodywork, aikido and prayer in the lineages of generative somatics and Vipassana meditation.
May all our efforts in ancestral reverence align with the principles of indigenous sovereignty and land back.
